How often should a chimney be swept?
The standard guidance is once a year if you burn regularly, and always before the first fire of the season. Creosote builds with every burn, and a yearly sweep keeps it from ever reaching a dangerous layer.
What are the signs my chimney needs attention?
Smoke drifting into the room, a campfire smell after burning, weak or reversed draft, visible flaky black buildup in the flue, water stains near the fireplace, or brick and mortar flaking on the stack. Any of those is worth an inspection.
Will sweeping make a mess in my house?
No. We lay drop cloths, seal the firebox, and run dust containment while we work. The soot leaves with us, your living room stays clean.
